Dangerous Precedent Set as NYU Professor of 'Propaganda Studies' Gets Cancelled

Updated: Aug 16, 2022

"We’re living in a moment when academic freedom and free speech are at grave risk.” Professor Miller

Chilling to the core, this latest assault on free speech and critical thinking sees a tenured US Professor from the Department of Media, Culture and Communications at New York University ousted from his senior position, whilst he is under investigation for his attitude to critical thinking and the course material questioning the Covid 'narrative' from a scientific perspective.

See below for details of this latest blow to democracy. Bear in mind that Professor Miller is a true hero for democracy in terms of the classes he teaches at the work he produces. His book Loser Take All: Election Fraud and The Subversion of Democracy, 2000 - 2008 exposes decades of corruption and election fraud that culminated in the stolen election of 2020 - the largest and most brazen election fraud in history. Removing Professor Miller is an act of tyranny and authoritarianism. It is democracy lost and the installation of Communism and Corporatism. I cannot stress enough, the importance of this act of war against the people of the world.

Part Two | 17 minutes

Investigative journalist Sheryl Attkisson writes, "this semester, Miller taught a section of his NYU propaganda course. In September, a class session focused on campaigns promoting mask-wearing as a means of limiting the spread of the novel coronavirus. After a student took issue with some of Miller’s in-class statements and the sources he cited, she took to Twitter calling for him to be fired. Miller’s department chair, Rodney Benson, replied to the student’s posts and indicated that the department had made her concerns a priority.

On Oct. 6, Miller responded on his personal blog, outlining the material he shared in his course, noting the criticism he received, and expressing concerns — which FIRE shares — about the threat to academic freedom posed by investigations into course content. He also shared a petition asking NYU to affirm his right to academic freedom, which has garnered more than 17,000 signatures. Ed. - now 31,876,

Then, on Oct. 21, several faculty members of the media department penned a letter to Dean Jack H. Knott and Provost Katherine Fleming calling on them “to publicly support the NYU community and undertake an expedited review... of Professor Miller’s intimidation tactics, abuses of authority, aggressions and microaggressions, and explicit hate speech, none of which are excused by academic freedom and the First Amendment protections.” However, the letter itself contained no specific allegations of policy violations, focusing instead on “the way in which [Miller] engages discussion around controversial views and non-evidence based arguments”; his petition, which they characterize as an “email campaign against the department”; and others’ negative responses to the student’s criticism of Miller’s course." (Attkinsson, S. 2021).

"Please consider signing the petition to "support the academic freedom of Prof. Mark Crispin Miller, now under siege at New York University for urging students in his propaganda course to read scientific literature on the effectiveness of masks against transmission of COVID-19. We see his situation as but one example of a growing global trend toward rigid censorship of expert views on urgent subjects of all kinds; so this petition is not just in his defense, but a protest on behalf of all professors, doctors, scientists and journalists who have been gagged, or punished for their rights to freely research, study, and interpret data on a variety of matters regardless of their controversial nature...

...Censorship is nothing new. We have been edging toward it ever more for decades, as both academia and the media have long discouraged free investigation and discussion of urgent public questions of all kinds, as those who would attempt to tackle them empirically have been slandered as “conspiracy theorists” or “truthers” and other slurs deployed to shut them up, or purge them as purveyors of “misinformation,” “fake science” or “hate speech.” Such censorship has blocked the sort of open, civil, reasoned give-and-take without which higher education—indeed, any education—is impossible, as is scientific progress overall"". (Change, 2020).

However The New York Post reports a more naïve view on this threat to democracy and free speech. “I take great pride in my teaching and find the positive responses of my students over the years to be the most gratifying thing I can think of in all my years here,” Miller told The Post. “So to be accused of these transgressions is really mind-boggling.” Some of Miller’s current and former students have also come to his defense in emails to NYU administrators, which he shared with The Post. “This is not just about me,” Miller said. “We’re living in a moment when academic freedom and free speech are at grave risk.” (Manskar, 2020).
